At last a properly interesting 100 Greatest ‘Rock’ Albums:

Spanning 1960-1999, and wonderfully eclectic it is too!
I’m not sure if I understand what this is, but it looks interesting…

From the sometimes useful How Do I… series on techrepublic.com
How do I… Turn off the Caps Lock key?
and How do I… Turn off overtype with the Insert key in Word permanently?
My thanks to MrC’s Cornish MusicalMushrooms for bringing back some wonderful memories. Castlemorton was a great party but it was also a truly democratic form of direct action against a society which made criminals of those who wouldn’t conform. I wish the yoof of today would rediscover that spirit of DIY creativity rather than getting caught up in worrying about bling and knifes…

Audio applications and tools to make your life easier…
Switch:
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/
Converts pretty much any format to any other format. The basic version is free. Don’t bother installing the ‘free’ Switch Plus trial unless you need its extra features as it is time limited and will eventually stop converting files.
Switch automatically downloads the necessary codecs as required – except for Real Audio (rm, ra file extensions) for which you need to have Real Player installed on your computer… which is a complete pain unless you use this instead:
Real Alternative:

Real Alternative Lite:
http://www.free-codecs.com/Real_Alternative_Lite_download.htm
The lite version doesn’t install Windows Media Player Classic but includes all the necessary codec dll’s for Switch to convert Real Media files.
NB – neither version supports RealMedia’s streaming .smi and .smil files so if you want to access that kind of content you may have no choice but to live with the Real Player nightmare…
and not forgetting…
Mp3Tag:

A tag editor not just for mp3s as its name suggests but also Ogg Vorbis and Ape, amongst others.
I’m not on Vista, and I don’t own an iPhone but I may do in the future…
Really interesting blog post on the impact of the BBC’s iPlayer on the UK’s broadband usage. How many people actually know that it operates as a form of P2P network? As also does Skype…
